Dinosaurs Can Read

With the disruption of normal school schedules, classes were suspended for a long time and even after the full resumption of face-to-face teaching, classes can only be conducted on a half-day basis, leading to students staying home most of the time, so it is vital to inculcate in all students a lifelong love of reading and empower them with the ability to learn in a self-directed manner, which lays the best foundation for them to excel at school and prepare for life.  Safeguarding the health and safety of our students is our top priority.  To press on with our efforts against the pandemic and make our library Covid-secure, we put a disinfection cabinet in place to prevent our collection from being contaminated to protect the health of students and teachers.  In addition, a considerable number of e-books were added to our collection to expose students to a wide range of genres and offer them ample opportunity to pursue their own interests and passions.  The importance of reading cannot be overstated.  A reading programme titled “the Dinosaur Century” was launched to promote thematic reading and in support of our aim to create a fun-filled atmosphere to arouse students’ curiosity, dinosaur models and related English books were showcased in the library along with teachers dressed up as dinosaurs and filmed in a video, which turned out to be an immense success, attracting many students to borrow books to learn more about these prehistoric reptiles.  To facilitate engagement during the pandemic, an online book club was established to provide a platform for students to exchange ideas with likeminded booklovers.
